James,
Just my $0.02 worth, due to the headlight replacement cost, the headlight protector is way more of a need-to-have than a want-to-have.
That being said, there's maybe $0.50 worth of material in the one from Aeroflow (the one I have), and if it hadn't been Christmas and my wife hadn't bugged me for a Christmas present list, I'd have been mighty tee'd off over the price (~$105 at the time).
If you can find one for $30 on ebay, take it and run.

I've been reminded several times that I should get the headlight protector for my K1600 GTL.
I've found two of them so far:
o Where's ZED brand from Australia makes one for $54.08 and $23.66 shipping.
o Aeroflow has one for $139.95.
Are there other brands ? Anyone have any feedback on "Where's ZED" ?
