Battery Tender for BMW 1200 RT
Author Last Post
When I bought my 2016 RT,  I rode it home from the dealer and then it sat for a couple of weeks due to weather. First good weather day I got , I rode it to work and only made it half way before it left me stranded on the side of the freeway. No power and everything went down just like you turned off the key. Long story short I was told the battery was bad and so was the starter , which I was told caused the battery to go bad. Never had an issue with the starter, go figure. Anyway the battery is a critical piece of the pie in the electrical system, without it you have nothing. I did try to charge with a battery tender device and got an alarm that indicated the battery was bad. I would give it back to the dealer to sort out. Good luck.
As you know now it is a 12Volt system.  The 6 volt won't work.  Perhaps it is 6 Amp...that won't really work either as too much for the battery.  On a battery tender you should be looking for about 1.2 amps for maintenance.  As others said, if battery dead after 10 days either the battery is bad or you have something drawing current.  If you have the Nav V or VI, take it out of the cradle and see if you get the same result.  Personally since in warranty still I would have Mancuso figure it out, but either way that charger is wrong.
Raj,

You have two issues.  First of all, unless there's something really different about your bike, it's a 12 vdc battery, not 6, so that 6 vdc tender isn't going to help.  Without going too far astray, Walmart has some really adequate tenders, so does Batteries Plus, but they're a bit pricier.

Secondly, unless the battery was old (say 3- or 4-plus years), there is no way it should discharge by itself in 10 days to a flat or near-flat condition.  So, unless something on your bike was left on, there was / is a short somewhere in the bike's electrical system.

Nope. You probably have a 12v battery, so a 6v tender won't work.

Also, if your battery is COMPLETELY discharged, it may not be recoverable with a battery tender. You might need a new battery, or possibly your battery can be resuscitated with the right instrument.
It's a 12V battery...
I didn't take my bike for about 10 days and the Battery has discharged completely.

I did buy a batter tender at the team Mancuso Powersports and the person gave me a 6 VDC @1.25A Battery tender. Am I using the right one for my bike

2016 Model
