This is a long ride; 161 miles out (Brookshire to Driftwood) and 162 miles back (Driftwood to Brookshire), so we need to leave Brookshire by 07:30. The weather forecast is hot and dry.
On the ride out, it’s pretty much all FMs, with a fuel / rest stop in LaGrange. We’ll also stop right around where we cross I-35, ten miles or so before Driftwood. The ride back is somewhat more docile, heading south-east to US 90, and then following that most of the way back. There is a fuel / rest stop in Schulenburg.
I have spoken with the restaurant, and they have both indoor and outdoor seating (which they call their 'takeaway seating'). The girl warned me that the wait for indoor seating can be quite long, up to 1-1/2 hours for groups, and they cannot / woll not begin seating until everyone arrives. However, she said that the outdoor seating is always available with no wait, and we could sit there, especially if we arrive in separate groups over a half hour or so time frame.
