Marc Parnes Visual Alert
Author Last Post

Just got the Valentine One Remote Audio Controller back as a Warranty Repair. Not sure

if it's a new one, but it works! Marc Parnes said that Valentine One does a good job on

warranty issues.

I worked with Marc Parnes over the phone, and we proved that the V1 Remote Audio Controller was not

putting out the 9V required to light the LEDs. It's speaker was also very low, and should have been

similar to the V1 Gen2. I removed the shroud around the VA connector, and applied a 9V battery to

prove the LEDs still worked.

Just shipped the Remote Audio Controller off to Valentine One for a warranty evaluation.

FYI...

James,

I have two Parnes VAs, one for the bike and one in the Expedition, and the problem you've described sounds like the issue is in the Valentine RD ... after all, the VA is just some LEDs and a power cord.

As background, I have a Uniden R3, which is powered through one of Uniden's power supplies / adaptors and incorporates both a flashing LED and mute button (both located where it plugs into the lighter socket).

While the R3 is quite sensitive, the audio alert doesn't always work (regardless of whether the MP VA is plugged in or not), even though the LED on the power supply / adaptor is flashing. And that was why I got the second one for use in the Expedition; the power supply / adaptor is about 45 deg to the right of and maybe 10 deg below my sight line.

In any event, you may want to post your question at the Radar Detector & Countermeasure Forum at:

Hope that helps.

I purchased a Marc Parnes Visual Alert in mid-August. It's attached to my

Valentine One Gen2 through a Valentine One Audio Controller, as per Marc's

design. It worked initially for a few weeks, but last week I noticed it was no

longer flashing.

I emailed Marc with the news, and he asked me to check some things. I was

also hoping to see someone at this weekend's Lupe Tortilla RTE with the same

Visual Alert so I could test, but no luck.

I just sent Marc the results of my local testing:

o With just the VI Audio Adapter, I hear the beeps coming from the Audio Adapter

*and* V1 G2 (expected).

o Connecting a speaker to the front head-set port on the Audio Adapter, I get beeps

thru the speakers (expected).

o Connecting the Visual Alert to the rear speaker port (required), I don't hear anything

from the Audio adapter nor any flashing from the Visual Alert (problem).

I'm waiting for Marc's response via email. Has anyone else had any issues like this

with their Visual Alert? I'm tempted to ship it back for evaluation, but FedEx wants

more than the cost of the Visual Alert to get it there in a timely manner. I need to get

it working for the Rally trip on November 5.
