Meeting Reminder for Thursday, October 12

Our next monthly meeting will be 7 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2017, at the Spaghetti Western Italian Cafe, 1608 Shepherd Dr, Houston, TX 77007

Two important elements are a part of the October meeting:

1. Beverly Ruffin will present the history of our Club. The Club origins date from 1966, clearly one of the longest running BMW motorcycle clubs in the US. Many founding members and veteran members will be in attendance. Come on out to recognize and salute these folks!

2. Officer elections. Currently we have no nominees for President, Vice President and Secretary. It is vital that we fill these roles with talented and supportive members to keep the Club viable for the future. Please respond to this note if you can contribute or identify potential future officers.

  • The program this month will be:
Beverly Ruffin – History of the BMW Club
    Officer elections
Officer reports and future ride plans
2017 Club plans and activity updates
Come early to eat and socialize. Hope to see you there.

Nick Bell
President
BMW (Motorcycle) Club Of Houston, Ltd.

Fall Tech Day, October 1

Don’t forget to attend the Tech Day this Sunday. The weather should be good.

Mike Murphy is hosting a club “Tech Day” at his place in Pearland. Tech days happen twice a year – in the Spring and Fall – rain or shine. We’re scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 1st. Start time is 10 am and will go through the afternoon till 5 pm. Lunch will be provided by the club.

If you haven’t been to one of these events before, this is an opportunity to get some maintenance done on your bike with some expert assistance available. Common tasks that many people do are bleeding brakes, oil changes, changing tires, adjusting valves, syncing carbs, adding farkles (and admiring other peoples’ farkles), changing rear drive fluid, and suspension adjustments.
Just bring your tools and parts.  Other members with years of experience of working on BMWs will be there to help you. Mike just asks that you clean up after yourself, take your leftover parts and fluids home, and if you borrow any tools, DON’T put them back – just leave them out on the bench (only HE knows where they go!). Even if you don’t have any work to do you can come and learn & socialize.
Note that this is not open to the general public -just club members and close friends.

The course will focus on safe practices for group rides, and include topics on “seasoned” rider awareness and accident scene management. Our deepest condolences to Mike’s wife Pilar and members of his family.

We received this notice from Bud C. of Fast Friends club:

Pilar, Mike’s wife, has asked Fast Friends to spread Mike’s ashes this coming Sunday (August 20). I know Mike had many friends and served as president of the Houston BMW Motorcycle Club. We’d like to invite all those who’d like to say a final goodbye to Mike. We plan to all meet up at the intersection of FM3090 and 149. That’s what we call the beginning of section 2 of 3090. Coming from 244, fm 3090 takes a hard right. There’s a bridge closed sign just after the right turn. If you don’t turn right, you’re on 149 going straight in to Anderson. I’m sure you’re familiar with the spot. Please be there at 11 AM, Sunday morning, SHARP. Too hot to wait. We have a turn picked out that’s only a few miles from there. Before the closed bridge. Pilar will be there. Just a short goodbye, spread the ashes. Then we’ll go onto Navasota for fuel, then back to 290 or I-10 for lunch. You’re! welcome to join us.

Thanks
Bud C
